The Position

The Avionics Technician III is an experienced technician responsible for advanced installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of aircraft avionics systems in accordance with FAA, FCC, and company regulations. This role requires expert-level skills in avionics wiring, system diagnostics, and component repair, along with a strong understanding of technical schematics and electrical diagrams. Based in Hagerstown, Maryland, this full-time, one-year contract position offers a competitive hourly rate of $35–$45, providing the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical aerospace projects while maintaining the highest standards of precision, safety, and compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, and test complex avionics systems and electrical components on various aircraft platforms

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on avionics equipment to ensure optimal functionality and compliance with FAA and FCC standards

  • Interpret and apply technical schematics, blueprints, and manuals to perform precise wiring, routing, and system integration tasks

  • Execute high-level wiring and installation work, including soldering, crimping, and connector assembly, using specialized avionics tools and techniques

  • Calibrate and maintain avionics testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrometers, and pitot-static systems

  • Document maintenance actions, test results, and repairs in accordance with company and regulatory standards

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures, particularly when handling hazardous materials or operating heavy machinery and test equipment

  • Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to identify and resolve system issues efficiently

  • Support training and mentorship of junior technicians by sharing expertise and best practices in avionics installation and maintenance

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No immediate direct reports

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 5 or more years of relevant experience

  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education 

  • Must have own tools in good working order

  • Ability to understand and interpret basic applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications

  • Ability to route wires per technical drawings

  • Advanced skills with avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, wiring installation, soldering, and crimping techniques

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with FCC and FCC GROL

  • Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope, and/or pitot static equipment

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required

Work Environment

  • On-site position located in Hagerstown, Maryland

  • This is a 1-year contract

Compensation

  • Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $35 - $45, with additional benefits 

Requirements

  • Because this client is a Federal Government Contractor performing services for the DoD, US Air Force, NASA and others, they do require US, Non-Dual Citizenship
