Full-time Contract Position – Hagerstown, MD

The Position
In this role, you will be using your skills and expertise to develop highly complex designs. These cover a very wide range, from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll create and review layouts, drawings, and models for clarity, completeness, and accuracy. You'll identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in designs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and lead highly complex design solutions for aircraft systems, tooling, and component sub-assemblies

Create, review, and validate layouts, CAD models, drawings, and 3D/2D documentation for accuracy and completeness

Design and support development of jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated manufacturing equipment

Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies; recommend and implement design improvements
-
Provide engineering design concepts to support manufacturing processes and tooling requirements
-
Ensure design completeness through fabrication, tooling tryout, and implementation
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support design conception, process development, and producibility
-
Provide technical support to product engineering for manufacturing, testing, and field use
-
Assist in establishing tool acceptance criteria for in-house fabrication and external procurement
-
Work independently under general direction while exercising judgment in determining design approaches

Skills & Qualifications
-
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
-
Typically 6+ years of relevant engineering or design experience (higher education may substitute for experience)
-
Strong practical knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and manufacturing processes
-
Proficiency with CAD and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools

Experience developing 3D models and detailed 2D drawings
-
Ability to support manufacturing tooling design and process development
-
Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure design accuracy and completeness

Preferred Experience
-
Experience with 3D Experience (3DX) or similar advanced CAD platforms
-
Background in aerospace, aircraft modification, or complex mechanical systems
-
Experience designing tooling for manufacturing, sub-assembly, and semi-automated equipment
-
Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams
-
Ability to guide design efforts and mentor junior designers or engineers

This is a 4-month contract

Compensation
-
Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $100 - $105, with additional benefits ​
