The Position
As a Mass Properties Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and managing aircraft weight and balance estimates for large transport aircraft. This position involves creating detailed ballast plans, supporting flight test clearances, and performing mass properties analysis throughout the product lifecycle—from concept and design through testing and certification. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintain accurate weight and balance documentation, and utilize tools such as the Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS). This is a hands-on, on-site role ideal for engineers with a strong background in aerospace systems, aircraft integration, and weight and balance verification, seeking to contribute to innovative aviation solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop aircraft weight and balance estimates for large transport aircraft during all phases of design and development

Create and manage ballast plans and flight clearances to support flight test operations

Analyze and verify mass properties data to ensure compliance with performance and safety requirements

Collaborate with cross-functional design and engineering teams to support aircraft systems integration

Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including weight and balance paperwork (Chart A, Form B, Chart C, Chart E, Form F)

Utilize tools like Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) for accurate aircraft mass properties analysis

Support design reviews and contribute to product lifecycle development from concept through testing and certification

Apply knowledge of aerospace engineering principles, including parametric design and model-based definition, to optimize system performance

Coordinate with flight test teams and provide technical input to enable safe and efficient aircraft operation

Participate in the continuous improvement of mass properties engineering processes and documentation standards

Skills & Qualifications
-
Bachelor's of Science degree in a related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience

Basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices

Experience working in multi-disciplinary design & development teams

Exposure to aircraft weighing

Experience with weight and balance analysis and verification
-
Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) trained and prior experience with aircraft weight and balance paperwork (Chart A, Form B, Chart C, Chart E, Form F)

Preferred Experience
-
Exposure to Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools such as CATIA and SolidWorks

Previous experience generating ballast plans to support flight test activities

Knowledge of industry standard aerospace principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, fundamentals of mass properties engineering

Understanding of aircraft systems

Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, US Department of Defense and/or US Military
-
The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required

Compensation
-
Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $50 - $55, with additional benefits ​
