The Position

The Mass Properties Engineer III is a senior-level engineering role responsible for leading complex mass properties analyses for advanced aerospace systems. This position provides technical expertise, drives modeling and validation efforts, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of mass properties data critical to aircraft performance, safety, and certification. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with hands-on experience, leadership capability, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead mass properties calculations and analyses for advanced aerospace platforms

  • Develop, validate, and maintain mass properties models and simulations

  • Conduct aircraft inventory and weighing activities

  • Analyze weight, balance, center of gravity, and inertia characteristics

  • Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of mass properties documentation and reports

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers

  • Lead and participate in technical design reviews

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate mass properties into system design

  • Manage project schedules and ensure milestone completion

  • Support continuous improvement of tools, processes, and methodologies

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No immediate direct reports

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

  • 6+ years of relevant engineering experience (advanced degree may substitute for experience)

  • Strong understanding of core engineering principles and practices

  • Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary design and development teams

  • Ability to work independently on complex technical assignments

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering

  • Knowledge of industry-standard aerospace principles, including: Parametric design, Model-based definition (MBD), Fundamentals of flight mechanics

  • Experience in the Aerospace & Defense industry

  • Experience supporting U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) or U.S. Military programs

  • Prior experience mentoring or leading junior engineers

Work Environment

  • On-site position located in Vandalia, OH

  • Alternate locations of Wichita, KS or Miamisburg, OH would also be considered

  • This is a 1-year contract 

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Compensation

  • Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $55 - $60, with additional benefits 

Requirements

  • Because this client is a Federal Government Contractor performing services for the DoD, US Air Force, NASA and others, they do require US, Non-Dual Citizenship
