The Position

The Structural Technician III is an experienced hands-on professional responsible for the assembly, modification, and repair of major and minor aerospace structures. This role requires precision, mechanical expertise, and a deep understanding of structural fabrication techniques. Based in Hagerstown, Maryland, this full-time, one-year contract position offers a competitive hourly rate of $35–$45. The ideal candidate will have advanced skills in fitting, riveting, drilling, and alignment operations, as well as the ability to interpret complex technical schematics and blueprints. Working in a fast-paced aerospace environment, the Structural Technician III ensures every component meets the highest quality, performance, and safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assemble, modify, and repair major and minor structural assemblies using advanced fabrication techniques such as riveting, drilling, reaming, trimming, and framing

  • Interpret and apply technical schematics, blueprints, and engineering drawings to ensure accurate structural alignment and adherence to design specifications

  • Measure and verify part dimensions using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, and templates to confirm conformance with engineering standards

  • Align parts and components on jigs and fixtures to ensure proper fit, finish, and function of assemblies within aerospace vehicles

  • Incorporate design or engineering changes into incomplete or completed assemblies while maintaining structural integrity and compliance

  • Inspect and verify work quality using statistical process controls or other quality assurance procedures to meet performance and safety requirements

  • Maintain tools, materials, and workstations in proper condition while following all safety protocols and equipment handling guidelines

  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve issues, improve efficiency, and ensure timely project completion

  • Support mentoring and guidance of junior technicians, sharing expertise and best practices for structural assembly and repair

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No immediate direct reports

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 5 or more years of relevant experience

  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience

  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Must have/own tools in good working order

  • Ability to understand and interpret applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications

  • Ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitch

  • Progressive experience with structure assembly, minor part fitting techniques and repair and refinishing such as airframe corrosion removal, as applicable

  • Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locks

Preferred Experience

  • Ability to travel

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, NASA or US Military

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required

Work Environment

  • On-site position located in Hagerstown, Maryland

  • This is a 1-year contract

Compensation

  • Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $35 - $45, with additional benefits

  • Because this client is a Federal Government Contractor performing services for the DoD, US Air Force, NASA and others, they do require US, Non-Dual Citizenship
