The Position

Our Client is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to lead the research, architecture, modeling, simulation, testing, and improvement of advanced systems and technologies. This role is responsible for developing complex system architectures from concept through detailed design and verification, utilizing tools such as DOORS, CAMEO, Rhapsody, and MATLAB. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements management, systems integration, and validation processes. As a cross-functional team leader, you will manage technical risk, guide multi-disciplinary collaboration, and drive performance metrics across the full product lifecycle. This on-site, contract position in Hagerstown, MD is ideal for a motivated engineer with a background in aerospace, defense, or complex technical development environments.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and improve cutting-edge systems, products, and services throughout the development lifecycle

  • Architect and model complex system designs using contextual modeling platforms and simulation tools

  • Perform system-level testing, certification, and validation activities to ensure compliance with project requirements

  • Lead the development of system architectures from concept through detailed design and verification

  • Manage functional requirements parsing, derivation, allocation, and integration for multi-disciplinary systems

  • Identify and manage technical risks throughout the project lifecycle using proven engineering practices

  • Ensure systems engineering deliverables align with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) best practices

  • Support Verification and Validation (V&V) planning, execution, and documentation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality, robust solutions

  • Lead trade studies, baseline definitions, and technical performance measurement (TPM) tracking to optimize system performance

  • Utilize tools such as DOORS, Rhapsody, CAMEO, and MATLAB for modeling and requirements management

  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders and project managers to ensure alignment with project goals

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No immediate direct reports

​

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • Thorough understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, CAMEO Systems Modeler, MATLAB Knowledge of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)

  • Experience or certification in INCOSE standards

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Experience leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures

  • Thorough understanding of establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)

Work Environment

  • On-site role located in Hagerstown, Maryland 

  • This is a 6-month contract

Compensation

  • ​Position offers an hourly W2 Rate between $95 - $100, with additional benefits​

​

Requirements

  • Because this client is a Federal Government Contractor performing services for the DoD, US Air Force, NASA and others, they do require US, Non-Dual Citizenship
